Credit Where Credit Is Due Department: The Houston Chronicle reported today that Lakewood Church ("The Oasis of Love") will observe their regular Sunday schedule of worship services on Christmas Day, despite the example of many other mega-churches in our area and across the country who are cancelling Sunday services all together.
I am pleasantly surprised.
ReplyDeleteI'll be having my usual schedule of worship service(no need for an s here) on Christmas Day, but I will note it is not considered newsworthy. Teehee.
I was wondering about that. Thanks for letting us know.
ReplyDeleteI am thrilled to hear this even though I am two states away and won't be attending. :)
ReplyDeleteI wonder if this was the plan all along, or if they made this decision after seeing all the controversy that being closed on Christmas has brought about. hmmm.
I hope that the church is packed even more than normal and that every single person comes home blessed beyond belief. (actually, I hope that happens to all of us - Merry CHRISTmas !!)
I appreciate the Lakewood doesn't feel the need to jump on the bandwagon-- they've always been pretty independent in their mega-church-ness.
ReplyDeleteBut what will Osteen's audience hear?
ReplyDeleteMore stuff about how Jesus fixes up all your problems and makes you healthy, wealthy, and wise?
I'll take our old Presbyterian way any day: Bible readings, biblical hymns and liturgies that connect us to our past.
But, while I'm preaching to our 75, Osteen will speak to his 50,000!
Incidentally, Saddleback (the Rick Warren megachurch that dominates the So-Cal ecclesiastical landscape) will ALSO be worshipping on Christmas Day.
ReplyDelete(So will we, but again, not newsworthy!)
