M.O.B. Update

It's about six weeks until the big day! ACKKKKK!! Everyone is asking me how the plans are coming.

So...here's what's in the Mother of the Bride's Bag.

Wedding invitations mailed.
Response cards coming in. Yeah!
Bridesmaids' Luncheon invitations--in the works.
Rehearsal Dinner invitations--in the works.
Rehearsal dinner powerpoint--in the works.
Sunday Brunch invitations--check.
Wedding favors--in the works, thanks to wonderful SIL.

On the "TO DO" List:

1. Music decisions for the ceremony. I'm thinking Bach's "Sheep May Safely Graze" for the bridesmaids' processional and the Jupiter theme from Gustav Holst's The Planets for Portia. Now, who should sing "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring"--the mezzo soprano or the lyric soprano? The recessional will be the hymn "Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee, with the congregation singing the along with the string quartet and the organ.

2. How many handkerchiefs will the MOB need? More than 3?

3. Finalize floral arrangements, bouquets, etc.

4. Transportation for bridesmaids, groomsmen, relatives coming from out of town. I have no idea what we'll need to do about this yet!

5. Housing for out of town relatives--El Jefe in charge here. I can delegate.

6. Miscellaneous details yet to be determined are probably looming out there.

Let's hope it's all in the bag.

10 comments:

  1. 1. Mezzo
    2. 3 ought to be enough if they are not silk.
    3. What's the color scheme?
    4. Call all your friends.
    5. That's good. FotBs need a job, too.
    6. What else could be left? Transportation from church to reception? Seating plan at the church? Horrible realization of old friends/law school classmates/favorite kindergarten teacher left off invitation list?
(Can you tell I had a big wedding the first time around? If only the marriage had been as sweet.)

  2. It certainly is all in the bag--God's big handbag, which is a huge Grandma purse with big colorful flowers on it, and there's gum and kleenex inside when you need them.

  3. Songbird,
Re: (3) -- the bridesmaids are wearing dark navy dresses and the sanctuary's predominant color is a medium reddish maroon in the seat cushions and carpet.

  4. Great! That would be perfect for Portia!

  6. I vote for the mezzo. And I like Rev. Dave's idea: never had any success with that one myself, though.

  7. And a very cute bag it is too!

  8. I'd vote for the lyric unless her voice has that really bright edge, in which case I'd join the others and vote for the mezzo, unless she's got a wobbly hooty voice. Trust your ears.

Option 2 for recessional might be Bach's Great St Anne Fugue.

Three is the absolute minimum number of handkershiefs. And since we're all so proper, I presume they'll be linen with lace edges...

Transportation: anything but a stretch Hummer.

Flowers: I'm partial to the drama of white flowers like roses for everybody, but that's just me.

RM-it also contains band-aids and valium and smelling salts...God thinks of everything! (giggling)

You're in great shape...so very organized. Not that I thought you'd be anything but...

  9. this makes me very nervous. DD is only 14. We had a small home made wedding ... hoping that when I'm MOTB it will be stres free. I didn't realise mothers did so much.

Best part of our wedding was FIL driving off with our bags after dropping us at the harbour (we went on a short cruise to Stockholm!) ... look on hubby's face and ofcourse no cell phones in those days. Luckily MY Dad realised and they came back with them and waved us off.
