You just know that we're all going to be treated to endless stories from the cable news networks and talk radio about the NASA female astronaut who drove from Houston to Orlando in a diaper in order to squirt pepper spray in the face of a younger woman who was her rival for the affections of another male astronaut. Good grief!
I doubt the charges of attempted capital murder and kidnapping will stick, but reducing the charges to lesser felonies won't dissuade the media from following the story. Last night I had dinner with the Shower Sisters and we all cross-examined Wonder Woman (our own rocket scientist) to see what she knew about this story. She didn't know anything more than was in the papers, but observed that the NASA culture seemed to encourage sexual hi-jinks that usually aren't publicly exposed.
Remember Clara Harris, the woman who ran over her cheating husband with her Mercedes and killed him after catching him in flagrant delicto? And how about Andrea Yates, the mom who drowned her 5 children in a depressive, psychotic moment? Both of them lived in Clear Lake, a subdivision of Houston. Lisa Nowak also lives in Clear Lake. Makes you wonder if there's something in the water over there.

ooohhh....likes a Texas version of Desperate Housewives!!
Makes you wonder if there's something in the water over there.
Hey!! I resemble that remark! We lived there for ten years beginning in the early 80s. I think I am perfectly fine!
" I think I am perfectly fine!"
princess: maybe a combo of Desperate Housewives and Poltergeist!!
Oh annie, you obviously drink bottled water ;)
I think I'm correct in saying this, and welcome correction if I'm not--although astronauts are required to have an annual physical, once they pass through the initial psychological evaluation for acceptance into the astronaut program, they usually receive no further mental health evaluations. Amazing.
Astronauts, space-ship pilots especially, are 'uber-Top Guns'. There's a certain personality that makes a good Navy and Air Force flier...a risk-taking push-the-envelope confidence that can carry over into interpersonal risk-taking as well...part of the warrior culture, I guess...

Not so clear lake?
Isn't the name of most lakes in Horror movies "Clear Lake"? Hmmm... makes you wonder.
Well, it could still be Clear Lake...maybe someone dropped a substance that is "odorless, tasteless, dissolves instantly in liquid, and is among the more deadly poisons known to man" in the water.
(Extra Credit if you can name the substance.)
Thalium?
Iocane Powder. (Great Princess Bride reference) Inconcievable.

vodka?
See? This is why we so ardently eschew lakes in this half of the state. All that water can't be good for ya.
I just remember that there's exactly one natural lake in all of Texas (and it's not Clear Lake). Given the taste and odor of my tap water, bottled or a filter are the only real choices for me.
LOL re: the PB reference! What an inconceivable thing to say!
That is one bizarre, bizarre case. I have let myself get rather steamed over the media spinning it as her snapping because she's trying to "have it all."
Plenty of women, including astronauts, "have it all" and never do things like this. The media can be really stupid sometimes. (Unlike thee and me, huh?)
>:P
wouldn't you know this is what hits the news as we starting planning to visit NASA Houston in March? Maybe we'll stay somewhere other than Clear Lake, just in case ...
