24 and Session

Tonight offers a dual challenge: the finale of 24 and a session meeting. Of course I'm dvr'ing 24 and El Jefe has promised to wait and watch it with me . The question is whether to watch it when I get home or save it for tomorrow night. That will probably depend on how late the session meeting runs since the finale is 2 hours long.

Actually I was tinkering around with making some analogy between 24 and session meetings, but couldn't do it. 24 is fast-moving and decisive, but session meetings (and all things in PresbyPolityLand) are just the opposite most of the time.

So fellow 24 fans, what's your prediction? Will Chloe and Cole help Jack escape or fake his demise so he can save the republic another day in the upcoming move? Or will the movie be a prequel or flashback? What will happen to President Taylor? Will Nixon-clone ex-President Logan get his just deserts? Or the Russians? And where are those dirty bombs now, anyway?

Oh, Oh, Limpics

Last night I watched some Winter Olympics with Babs and P-Dubya. Babs has always been a HUGE fan of the Olympics, but these days its hard for her to stay up for her fav skating events because of her early appearance at work.

So we're watching something called the snowboard half-pipe, at least I think that is what it is called. It seems like something only a teenage boy would love--baggy loud clothing, risky stunts and lots of macho. We were highly amused by the "analysis" of the different tricks the guys performed--it seemed awfully pretentious and forced.

We miss the Jamaican Bobsled Team--now there was a really fun group to watch!

On the whole we were decidedly underwhelmed. Are you watching the Winter Olympics? What do you think?

WNTW RevGal Episode

We were out Friday night so I recorded the What Not To Wear RevGal episode. Yesterday afternoon I had time to watch it.

I thought it was very cleverly done. Loved the choir processing in singing the Halleluia Chorus from Messiah as Stacy and Clinton surprised young (and very pretty) Episcopal priest Emily! Someone on the show knows something about classical Christian music and used excerpts as background music several times--notably Bach's Toccata and Fugue in C.

As always, Stacy and Clinton respected Emily's opinion about how she needed to present herself at work. They talked with her colleagues at the church about this, too. That was quite a challenge when you consider that she wears a clerical collar every day to her job at the church! They even had a custom made collar made for her that would work well with the suits and blouses she bought.

An online article that I read last week revealed that Emily tithed $500 to a charity in accordance with her beliefs, so she actually only spent $4500 on her new wardrobe. Good for her! She looked so beautiful and approachable when they were done.

Best in Mindless TV

Lately with all the doom and gloom news everywhere, although I have always been a political and news junkie, I find myself avoiding my usual TV fare and looking for some good old mindless TV.

I find that I can forget my worries watching cable shows like House Hunters, Project Runway, What Not To Wear, Top Chef, Designed To Sell or Chopped. Now El Jefe doesn't understand the appeal of these shows at all, so I tell him that they are similar to sports for the non-sports fan.

When he watches Rockets basketball or Longhorn football he loves to anticipate the next move the player makes and then second-guess and criticize : "NOOOOO, what was he thinking when he passed to the guard?" "That was NOT an interception, his knee was down", etc. etc.

That's what I do with these shows: "I'd pick THAT house", That dress is truly HEINOUS", "He should have put a cream sauce on that instead of balsamic" etc. etc.

The difference is the volume and the number of the comments.

What show do you watch when you want a bit of mindless TV? I need to find some new ones until Project Runway and Top Chef come back.
