El Jefe sent me the Yankee or Dixie Quiz, which evaluates what dialect of American English you speak.
To his chagrin, he scored 45% YANKEE. Must be all those years arguing with New York lawyers.
QG, on the other hand, scored 63% DIXIE.
It's a short, interesting quiz. Try it here and let me know how you scored in the comments.

47% YANKEE....raised in California?
35% - "A definitive Yankee," with most of the answers referencing "the Great Lakes region."
You can take the woman out of northern Indiana, but...
I was 46% Yankee (barely Yankee they called it)
I was surprised how many of my answers are specific to my very specific geographical region. Go Western Great Lakes!
My Kentuckiana roots are apparently no longer showing.
74% Dixie! Yee-haw!
68% (Dixie). A definitive Southern score!
For a California raised boy it's not really a surprised. My dad was an Okie and I served a church in Texas for four years.
Now where did I put that confederate money???
Alan
I am proud to show my 70% Dixie score! My Missoura Granny'd be proud and my mama who'd nearly despaired of my ever learnin' the ways of the steel magnolia will also be proud.
Gonna go help Alan find that confederate money.
52% (Dixie). Barely into the Dixie category.
Must be 20 years living in Missouri. And no, I don't say "Missourah".
79% and I grew up in "Missoura" and southern Illinois. Didn't hurt that I was stationed in Virginia and North carolina off and on for 11 years.
As for as El Jefe and the New York lawyers, I extend to him my condolences. I think that for those who practice in NYC, are they have a special course in law school on how to be obnoxious.
45% (Yankee). Barely into the Yankee category.
Now that is surprising. I thought that I would get a score that said I was from the deep North.
Guess I better start picking out my silver pattern now. Yee haa!
Uh-oh! I scored 86% Dixie! (And yes, I do have Confederate ancestors.) My daughter, who sounds way more Southern than I do scored 79%. Go figure!
49%. I am a centrist. I also grew up in one border state (PA) and live in another (KY).
Hmmm : 65% (Dixie). A definitive Southern score!
Can't be me, I'm from Joisey !!
Must be the fact I've been married to my southern belle for over 16 years.
55% Dixie here. Guess it's 'cause we moved from Texas when I was 5 and only got back for vacation with relatives every couple of years or so. Though my mom says that before we moved, I sounded like Scarlett O'Hara.
72% Dixie here. I think my score has dropped since my move to Colorado. My people would be sad to know that.
69% Dixie - 7th generation in Southern state - not surprising!
30% Yankee. I guess growing up in a New England state founded by some of your ancestors will do that. I assume I picked up all the non-Yankee usages living elsewhere in the country.
46% (Barely Yankee) Personally I just call it speaking correctly. ;)
Though I'm from WA State, I guess I've lived in TX too long: 68% (Dixie). A definitive Southern score!
Are you watching the Gulf, too?
63% Dixie, "a definitive score" --I was worried that living in upstate New York and then 9 years in the Midwest might have "tainted" me, but I'm in the clear!
88% Dixie and proud of it!
I'll be humming "I'm a good ol' Rebel" for the rest of the week!
86% Dixie! Hooray! (though I'm sorry about the other 14%)
I think the reason I scored so high is because I tried to answer according to what I said as a child, more than what I'm likely to say now.
But that long sandwich with all the different meats and seasonings on it is a PO-BOY!!! That wasn't even a choice!
78% (Dixie). That is a pretty strong Southern score!
North Carolina is my home (and always has been).
44% YANKEE. I grew up for 9 years in the St. Louis area and then moved to Northern NJ (very close to NYC).
Mine was odd...called my 35% a "definite Yankee." The only thing I can think of is that my other answers must have been all over the place.
67% (Dixie). A definitive Southern score!
That's interesting, as I'm a Kansas native, with 7 of 8 Great grandparents born in KS (and the other in Iowa). Their parents were all northern - NY, OH, PA, IA, IL. I attended seminary in Michigan, and natives there commented we were from the South because we spoke slower than they did.
