Watercolor Friday

Here are a couple of my latest watercolors. The Matterhorn is one of the painting exercises in the course. The idea is to practice painting a snow-capped mountain. You can see I haven't gotten to the DVD about painting trees yet!

The other one is Beatrice and Olivia, of course. I did it from a photo of these two napping together, but changed the background to make a better composition. I'm pretty pleased with it, all things considered. And I was getting tired of working through the mountain painting exercises!

Upon seeing the mountain watercolor, before reading your comments, I recognized it as a depiction of the Matterhorn. I think that means you earn a passing watercolor grade.

Now that you have painted a summit, when will you paint a shore?

Actually, I'm going to the bay today for the weekend and plan to do some sketching and take photos to try my hand at that!

You certainly should be pleased! The composition and color with Beatrice and Olivia is wonderful. Matterhorn is nicely executed, but I can tell the dogs are something you connected with and care about.

Mary,

Thanks! As you know, an exercise is an exercise, but we love our dogs! Averill wants me to paint another one for her--probably with a purple or blue background to go with the decor in her home.

Beautiful! You really have a gift. Where should I send Newman & Redford's picture? :)

Trees are vastly over rated. This is some really good work. Shall we start calling you Grandma Moses II?

These are wonderful, especially the puppies. And I agree: you can feel the love!

I recognized the Matterhorn right off! I grew up with pictures of it. So, that should make you feel good that you are well on your artist's way.
The dachses turned out great!
What a talented woman you are!
