Kirkpatrick To Step Down

The Presbyterian Outlook reported yesterday that the PCUSA's Stated Clerk Clifton Kirkpatrick will step down at the end of his term next year after serving 12 years in that position, clearing the way for election of a new Stated Clerk. (For my non PresbyReaders, the Stated Clerk is an elected office, roughly comparable to that of chief executive officer of a corporation.)

While it's tempting to view his retirement as paving the way for positive changes for the denomination, the truth is that renewal of the PCUSA is not the job of the Stated Clerk alone, but of all of us who care about the church, with the help and guidance of the Holy Spirit.

A surprise yet somehow not unexpected. Perhaps Ed Koster of Detroit Presbytery will run for SC in 2008.

This news did not surprise me. He hs commitments to the WARC and WCC and the PCUSA these days sure isn't a lot of fun...

If there is to be change, 'let it begin with me'.

What Toby said.

QG, you ought to run for that. (though probably most sensible to run the other direction)

QG for Mom of GA!

Count me in on jumping on the QG for Stated Clerk bandwagon!

Erm. Thanks, everyone, but let's please get off that bandwagon before it goes anywhere.

I don't think I'm called to that job, plus El Jefe would have a fit.

Let's think of someone else. With experience with GA Council, for example. Mike Kruse?

Nah...nice try, but you can't change the subject flip it back onto Mike. Don't forget, all call stories in the BIble have the callee trying out excuses before finally giving in. :-)Seriously, someone with your legal training (who ever thought that would be a compliment?) and deep faith would be a tremendous asset in that role.

Off to make up my campaign banner...and only kidding a little...

QG - your observation that change will not come with one office holder is a good reminder.

Still, I will add my voice to the calls for QG for Stated Clerk.

C'mon let's start a write in campaign.
