Friday Borger Blogging

Here's Borger's (El Jefe's hometown in the Texas Panhandle) answer to Amarillo's Horses (see previous post) and the Cow Parade. The city is encouraging businesses to display decorated oil pump-jacks in front of their establishments to boost civic pride.

This photo is the one advertising "Nana's Gifts." Because nothing quite reminds you of your Grandmother's presents like a pump-jack painted with stars!

Okay, I admit the cows and horses are sort of odd. Still love them.

But pumpjacks?? *rolling my eyes*

Geeze. The real pumpjacks out in the oilfields are decorated better than this.

Have you seen the one's that have Snoopy lying on the top, as if it was a doghouse? Love those!

Although...I must admit, I'd rather have one of these in my front yard instead of those miniature windmills...

Thank you for the welcome to Texas. Thus far I've had a great time and I have a feeling that I'm going to enjoy my time here.

I have just one question...what is a pump-jack?

Pumpjacks.... I never knew what they were called. Can you tell I'm from the Midwest/Northeast?

But... tacky all the same.

Pumpjacks are not familiar to me -- we don't have them around here that I know of.

To my non-Texan friends: pumpjacks are used to pump oil from the hole up to the wellhead.

Pumpjacks are all over the state in the wheat, corn and cotton fields and even in the towns and cities pumping up "Black Gold/Texas Tea" that is then shipped to the refineries in the Houston/Galveston metro area.
