Let's start with the proposition that patio dresses should stay on the patio--or porch--and not out in the general public.
It's been so HOT (see the previous post) here in Houston that my brain has been baked sufficiently that I actually went out and bought a couple of patio dresses to wear around the house. What is nice about them is that they do not touch your body and hence are much cooler than shorts, capris or anything else.

SSSHHHHH! Don't tell Portia and Babs who will definitely NOT approve.
And if the general public visits me on my patio and finds me in my patio dress then that is the general public's problem.

We called those mu-muus. My mom got into those from her time in Hawaii.
If it's cool and comfy then I say, wear it proudly!
I wear shorts and a t-shirt. Sadly the t-shirt no longer takes a direct route from my shoulders to my hips.
skirts. Don't like pants in the summer. Like floaty, gauzy skirts.
that's a muu-muu if i ever saw one! in the early 60's we wore them in the playground over our school uniforms :)
but hey - whatever works to keep the sweating to a mimimum!
My favorite -- a tank suit and soccer shorts.
In a VERY other life, I suppose it would have been a bikini!
Several years ago I found some mid-calf black slips (yes, slips) that are substantial enough not to be too revealing. With support in the bodice, so underwear is at a minimum. That's my at-home attire when the weather is sizzling. Hope no one but very best friends comes calling unexpectedly before things cool off a bit!
In my youth, these were called "house dresses," and my gram had several. Not worn out in public, but certainly around the house and yard-- especially in the days before air conditioning was everywhere.
In hot weather, the key is loose. Depending on what I'm doing... T-shirts or tanks, and shorts, skorts or lightweight skirts.
As someone who wilts in severe heat and humidity, I'm with PG - if it keeps you comfy and cool, then go for it!
In hot weather attire, I usually go for loose - shorts and skirts - and lightweight - cotton and linen. Also, wearing cool colors - white, light blue, light yellow seems to psychologically keep me cool.

If it's that hot, stay inside. You seem way too classy to wear a great grandma dress.
On the other hand I bet you are so classy that you can wear this with style. Some women have enough confidence to look great in anything!
