For the past week I've been reviewing applications for our presbytery's Vision Intitiatives Grants. I keep coming across the phrase "live into" as in: " live into the vision"; or "living into the faith", etc., in the applications.
Who came up with that particular bit of PresbySpeak? And When? And Why?
It's working on my last nerve. I'm getting out the red pencil. Just so you know.

Hmm, how weird! I haven't come across that yet, and hope not to!
I was at a Sustainable Communities workshop last Saturday where the word "incentivize" kept coming up in every single presentation. Whatever happened to "encourage", "urge", or good old "bribe"?

Haven't heard this one. Spooky's right - death to pompototisy!! uh, pompotousness? er, pompomousterny? Scuse me. Gotta go live into my dictionary.

Death to Zorra for using the word 'intentional.' I think she did that on purpose, i.e., she was intentional about it!
I hear this used all the time in business and sports settings. "We have to live into this new business startegy before we can now it works." "We have to live into this offense we have designed before we will see some payoff.
I think in our PCUSA circles it is deeply connected to God "doing a new thing." Frankly, I don't think you will find the phrase all that annoying after you live into it for a while.

In Methodist-land it's "Faith Journey" which gets ridden into the grouund.
Never played buzzword bingo - yeah I haven't lived ...

Oh, don't worry, "faith journey" gets used a lot in our circles. After a few weeks at seminary, a classmate graoned, "If I'm asked to 'share my faith journey' one more time, I'm gonna scream!"
Honey it is said everywhere. It is sickening, isn't it. Get that red pen out and get to work.

I can't quite get past connectional. It sounds awfully cold and corporate for a word that's supposed to make you feel like a big happy family...
Have you ever seen the Simpson's episode when a teacher turns to another at the back of the auditorium, and says that she'd never heard the word "embiggens" before moving to Springfield? It's part of the town motto "A noble spirit embiggens the smallest man"
The second teacher takes a drag on her cigarette and says, "It's a perfectly cromulent word."
That has become my auto-response for buzzwords. :)
