Presbytery Votes to Remove Atheist from Membership

Mission Presbytery met on Friday and voted to approve the recommendation of its Listening Team that avowed atheist Robert Jensen be removed from the membership roll of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Austin, Texas. The vote was 158 for, 115 against as reported by Classical Presbyterian, who attended the meeting and says he will post a more detailed description of the proceedings tomorrow.

I tell you what i have enjoyed and been interested in your postings about the Atheist church member. You could write a story, a book or something about this thing. It reads like a mystery novel.

It looks like the action has been stayed, according to Presbyweb.

I suspect that is a routine procedural move to allow for appeals?

Thanks for the heads-up, Denis. I didn't see the Presbyweb update.

I think you're right, this is a move to allow for St Andrews to appeal, which is almost certainly going to happen.

We'll all have to stay tuned. I'll put an update on this post.
