QG Embed Report: Hurricane Ike Aftermath

Now that we have power, we can catch up with all the news.

Apparently downtown Houston, Sugar Land and Katy are the only areas affected by IKE that have power. Broadcasters are telling people that it will take up to FOUR WEEKS to get everyone back online. OMG, it looks like we will have Babs, the BF, Portia, DK and maybe more at our house for the duration. Just call me Martha.

Did you see the spectacular pictures of all the broken glass in the high rise buildings downtown? Picture El Jefe inside one of them. He had a call from the business manager of his law firm letting him know that one of the glass walls in his office is gone. Thankfully there is no other damage. Portia and BF's office building was also damaged. Babs doesn't know about her clinic yet.

So they all may be at home for a few days. With El Jefe trying to work from home. Fun.

Portia keeps calling from Colorado, desperate for news about their townhome near downtown. We tried to drive down to check on it for them, but were stopped by high water. Babs and BF will go tomorrow morning when the water should be gone.

I'm not sure there are enough trucks in the known universe to haul away the debris in just our neighborhood. Never mind the rest of metro Houston.

Feeling very, very blessed to have power.

PS. Just got a call from my niece's husband. Long story short, he asks to come stay with us, too. Welcome!

sounds like a house party!! so glad you have power with everyone there - and that you weathered the storm as well as you did. the pix of the glass downtown are awesome in the "awe" way - cannot imagine all of that glass falling and then flying around in the wind.

Wow. So glad you and all yours are all right.

Meantime, card games, charades and 20 questions might be fun.

Wow! The AP pix in 'The Sun' of the Houston high-rises are amazing.

The clean up is tedious, but if you have a chiminea, just think of all that free firewood...

So glad everyone is OK...

I remember wondering, after Rita, where in the world they were going to put all that debris. I know there must be a whole lot more over your way now. I am glad y'all have power and everyone is safe.

I will pray for y'all to have patience and endurance as you wait for things to be cleaned up and begin to rebuild.

no power yet at our house in Spring Branch, so we ditched it for San Antonio. Other parts of SB are fully powered but no/very little water. Are y'all on water-boiling orders there? Did you have worship today?

So glad you have power. My son lives in NE Houston by the loop. He's in Austin, but says his house in Houston doesn't have power yet. At least, he doesn't have to work tomorrow!

Becky,

No problems with water here. My sister in law in Brightwater had low water pressure for a while, but now it's fine.

MDPC didn't have formal services today, but the pastors were there all morning for prayer and to help those who need it. Memorial area has no power and much of the neighborhood around it is impassable due to the tall trees being down.

Enjoy my hometown! I'd be there myself with my sister or brother if we didn't have power!!

Glad you have power and glad you have a home for all the family coming your way.

Had you on my mind all day. Glad you are ok and hope the clean-up goes quickly. I recall the clean-up trucks coming by week after week to get the debris piled up by the curb.

I've had you in my prayers and am so glad that you have come through safely. I hope that workplaces, power lines and Portia's home are all OK soon.
